30A Congrats everyone!

The moments that stick out to me the most are the posts that I had to video myself to unveil my product. It was nerve racking but put it into perspective that I have to be formal and show that I am worth investing in. I’m most proud of doing all the assignments on time and not missing a single one. I think I have moved closer to the mindset but have not developed it completely.  I definitely think it helps to invest a good amount of time into your work and get something out of the class because to me it would be easy to BS this class and not take anything but since we are paying for it, get something out of it if you can.

29A

I think that my main goal in this is to get people to express their reactions to my product and show their support. With this product in particular I want to show that I can productively get this done in a productive and creative way while preserving the style and professionalism of the sock.
A lot of people depend on the socks to have a sleek design and not show but my struggle is that if I put something on the sock it will be very uncomfortable in the shoe and bother you all day. Although I did have the idea of having a tie around your ankle but then that compromises the look of the no show and I think that it wouldn’t look as sleek.
If I were to take this business plan into action, I think that a good place to try this is at markets selling at a table just to get it out there and let people know that there is something out there for them like this.
I don’t have a lot of business experience, but I do think that the assignments that we have done thus far have prepared me with an army of people that I could use to build my business and help to get the product out there.
One of the main things that I have to work on is actually forming the product and then figuring out how I will market the packaging to show that these are new and going to be a big thing.
If I am too bland with the packaging, then most people won’t even see that there is a difference in them and the socks around them in stores.
After I have formulated a plan for that I think that I will look into how to actually put this product into fruition into the stores.
Once I have a contract with a store to try it out and show that I have reputable sales then I can start to build my business into a more corporate style business.

1.    The theme was that most of the time Steve Jobs focused a lot on the arts and connecting it to technology. I think this is super important and why he made it so far.
2.    It showed that you can have so many different perspectives and include other areas of passion or interest and not just work on one area of your life.
3.    Definitely would try to make people connect something in their life to an entrepreneurial aspect that could come in handy.

4.    Biggest surprise to me was learning Steve Jobs was so influenced by the arts. He seems so technological but finding out that there is more to it was the most amazing thing to me.

28A

Honestly, I think that I would use the exit strategy of using the business until it reaches its max potential and allowing myself to get where I want with school and not be dependent on that revenue. After that, Ill either pass it down to an heir or sell it. I want this because running a business is a lot of work and not necessarily what I am super passionate about. It definitely has influenced me to not put my best foot forward due to not wanting to actually run the whole business the entire time but if it becomes an actual thing I would always try my best.

26A

One thing that I failed at this semester was obtaining a senate seat for the sophomore class at UF. I didn’t receive enough of the votes and I learned a lot from it. I learned that some things are the way that they are due to tradition. It made me reflect on our campus community and how a lot of people don’t understand what they are doing in the bigger picture. I study sociology and find It interesting to see how everything connects and see how micro level perspectives and can affect society and the macro level of analysis. Normally, I get upset at failure but don’t let it stop me. I will try again usually or just try something new. My perspective on failure has always been the same due to my upbringing. People always had more resources than I typically did so I had to work harder a lot of times while people got a lot handed to them. I do like taking risks although and think that this class has helped me to realize I’m not the only one out there working my ass off to do what I need to get done.

3 customer interviews
-       All of the interviews pointed to wanting an actual physical product. They all wanted to see the product and actually feel what it would feel like on them and how comfortable and how well it would work.
-       What makes the most sense?
o  The best option for me would be to pith the idea to a couple of business investors to see if I could get the resources to make the product and have a better business plan. Next, would be to make the product and have trial runs to see how well it went over with the customers.
New Market
-       I could target a less professional market than intended. I think that it won’t go over very well considering that they tend to not wear these types of socks. I could make them more comfortable so that people are more attracted to them.
-       Interviews
o  They like the idea of being more comfortable and especially more stylish. They were men being interviewed which is normally not a target market for no show socks, so they gave me some really good insight.
Reflection

-       I learned that the product may have to adapt to a larger market with better designs and comfort. I didn’t think about how constricting normal socks are so maybe I could look into what people prefer when picking things out. I will put it into fruition and try some things out now that I have identified a larger market.

I think it’s important to start out small and build from there.

1. social capitol: I have a lot of connections in different places. This is not rare
2.financial capability: I have enough to support myself. This is not rare
3. hardworking capability: I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. This is a little rarer.
4. extroverted: I am very outgoing although that is not rare
5. ability to try anything new: this is not very rare but definitely an asset
6. I have good friends: In a rough patch this comes in handy. I think this is becoming rarer.
7. Family values; I hold very good values that play into my role in society
8. high standards: I hold myself and the people around me to high standards
9. detail oriented: I can spot when something is off almost instantly most of the time
10. OCD: I have an actual condition that keeps me in line most of the time.

I think that the ability to try new things is the best asset. I’m not scared to go out on a limb to try something not as conventional and this can be very rewarding.

I was told to be a little more enthusiastic so i tried my best. I do find it a little weird to be enthusiastic about socks so it’s a little awkward. I changed my attitude towards it a little bit to come off as happier lol.

1.    The theme of the book was that if you work hard you can accomplish anything. Although, the story was focused on Mr. Elon Musk it had a theme that was a self-,love type book if you took into consideration the tips that they were giving you.
2.    It connected because it showed how thinking outside of the box can get something resolved and the hard work that we put into what we work on is worth it and never be afraid to fail.
3.    It would have to deal with something in your childhood. A huge chunk of the book was about how Elon Musk helped his future pre adulthood. You could see how our childhood played into the future we want now.

4.    I definitely was surprised to know how young he was whenever he started his journey. I didn’t expect someone to ever be able to have the resources to be that successful at such a young age.  My “aha” was that I cannot do the same thing since it is too late in my life.

Domain Expert
-      I chose a doctor here in town that it known for his investment practices and knows a lot about business. He also carries his own medical practice. I know the doctor as I used to work for him at his practice. He expects to see me do well in college and become successful in whatever business tract I follow. I think he has a lot of connections and therefore will bring a lot of connections to me.
Market Expert
-      I chose a close friend that studies advertising because he has spoken with me about opening his own business with a line of clothing. I found Thomas whenever I started freshman year and we instantly vibes together. I think that our exchanges are very friendly, and he would be willing to help me with anything.
Supplier
-      I chose my friend, Mika. Who has a lot of experience selling and providing certain products due to her background. I found her because she dated a close friend of mine and we stayed in touch and became such good friends. I think she will be beneficial to any business due to her selling experience and also wouldn’t od me dirty in any business transactions.

I think the reflection will be good to determine how we will promote out business. I personally want a very creative vibe but also one that comes off as professional. This will be different from the networking events I have been to because usually I am on the consumer side instead of trying to sell my own product.

Idea Napkin No. 2
1)   My name is Brynn Priceand I am a sophomore at UF studying Sociology. My aspirations include being a lawyer and doing well in undergrad. My skills are that I am very organized and task oriented. I do well when given a deadline. If the business were to play a part in my life, I don’t see it as a main time consumer. I see it more of allowing someone else to take it over.
2)   I’m offering an alternative to no show socks that makes it to where they won’t fall off.
3)   Offering it to anyone that currently wear no show socks
4)   They care because current socks are uncomfortable and can’t stay on very well.
5)   I feel like I have the motivation that most people don’t and the creativity of a kid so it can be a successful, aesthetic business.

6)   I think that a lot of these fit together due to the business having to be creative and the lawyer aspect of doing everything by the law.

I am a little bit on the conservative side and tend to fall into my work. I feel like I did shift the character to me a little bit and have a lot in common with her. We wouldn’t be friends because I hate people that are like me and power hungry.

If I have anything in common, is it a coincidence?
I think this is due to me being an ideal customer for my invention so I formed the person to be a little like me .

Here is my presentation. I didn't receive any feedback but feel as if I have improved my flow of words in this video.

15A

  1. After conducting my interviews I found that people don’t care for the most expensive things or the best quality of things but more of a balance between the two. They would like to see good quality but in terms of price that also come with a hefty price tag. Normally you can find things that are balanced out if you try and look hard enough.
  2. The people i interviewed were more likely to shop at places that had a little more off brand items but was known for being well priced. They wouldn’t finance anything because that puts them at jeopardy of forgetting or affecting their credit score. They shopped often at places like Trader Joe’s, Ross, and Marshall’s.
  3. A good purchase to my interviewees was that they actually used the product. Too often did they find themselves paying for things they never used. If they used it then that shows they invested in an item that was influential in their lives.
  4. The interviews were very nice and I got into the headspace of people who don’t necessarily think the exact same as me. It was nice to get more diverse opinions and they showed me a glimpse into more of a mature outlook on things like buying and how to sell for maximum profit and how to find a nice equilibrium between quality and price
  5. I think this segment taught us a look into how we can profit from learning others ways of thinking in the market. We can’t be close minded due to our methods not being universal.

Knowing Thyself 16A

My human capital

  1. Im very genuine and will always tell the truth
  2. Im very upbeat and try to be positive more than the average person
  3. Im very friendly and get along with a wide range of people
  4. Not scared of failing
  5. Will always try to be the best at what I do.

Reflecting on these interviews I found a lot of similarities in what I see in myself. The people i interviews discussed that I do work hard and how I am able to handle many things in my life at once. Coming to college is a hard time and especially a place where your time management skills are pushed to the max. I think I have a pretty good sense of who I am and i saw this reflected in the interviews. If i could go back and redo my list from number 1, I would probably include a lot more social encountered things because physical things have stopped being such bad altercations for me and I have become more at peace with things that don’t go my way throughout the day.

Half Way Review (14A)

1)   The requirements of this course are very minimal but what I do to keep up is actually designate a time and day to every one of my assignments in the beginning of the week so I can be mentally prepared for everything
2)   I feel like giving up all the time, like every day. I always pull through by thinking about the end goal and how this is helping me towards my future. I feel like I’ve developed an attitude but not a tenacious one. The experience of taking 18 credits has made me come to this.
3)   3 tips I would give:
a.    Don’t wait until Friday morning to rush for your assignments.
b.    Choose something you enjoy doing and stick with it for this course.

c.    To develop a tenacious mindset you will need to be diligent and take all of your time into consideration and make sure you’re happy most importantly.

Elon Musk (13A)

1)   I read about Elon Musk
a.    What surprised me the most was that he learned to program when he was 10 years old.
b.    I most admired how dedicated he was to his work.
c.    I least admired that although he is very intelligent, it made him an outcast
d.    He didn’t really encounter any adversity other than the fact that he was young when his parents got divorced.
2)   I noticed he experienced a lot of motivation, diligence, and he was hard working
3)   The part that was confusing to me was how he went through this divorce of parents and his parents checked his ears if he was deaf. I think you can pretty much tell if someone can’t hear.
4)   I would ask what started a spark in him so young? Do you think success is imbedded in you or you can work towards it?

5)   I think some people don’t think of hard work in the same sense most people do. I think he probably was doing the hard work but actually enjoyed what he was doing so its enjoyable.

12A

Pick a segment. I believe the segment I would choose is getting started. I will do this by reaching out to the population to study whether or not they would buy this. I would study the responses on how to improve it and have a result leading ot a business plan or a failed business plan.
Move to information search. I found in my interviews that a lot of them just resorted to 2 options. One being they would just stop to wear the style sock completely or two, they would just deal with the aggravation.
Report the findings of your research.I found that a lot of people have this problem and would love to find a solution to this. I even had an interviewee want me to follow up with them to see if they could try the finalized product.
Draw conclusions. I think that I would need to find people to test the product on before going further. I would not want to start working to make it into fruition unless I was 100% sure that it was worth the risk and financial process.

11A

1) You. I am Brynn Price, a second year Sociology major. I’m skilled in mostly innovative thought, as I minor in innovation and have some experience in figuring out hard to solve problems. I worked as a CNA and with that job you often have to be creative and find solutions that are not only tangible but also ethical. My business concept is to flee out into the market as a product mostly sold in larger business’ like Walmart and Target.
2) What are you offering to customers? I am creating an easier solution to No-Show socks that will decrease aggravation and struggle in wearing them every day.
3) Who are you offering it to? I am providing this to everyone who has worn these socks and gave up, everyone that currently wears them with the struggle, and everyone that wants to try them struggle free. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
4) Why do they care? They care because most people are about themselves and want to fix their own problems and with this they will be able to.
5) What are your core competencies? Nobody has tried to fix this issue yet. I see nobody actively searching for solutions in this department.
I think that these fit together because now in the world, everyone is about improving the quality of life for themselves and if they have this in their sock life then they might try the product. This is a good business plan although I don’t know any steps to actually take in order to get it done as an up and running business.

Opportunity = kinda failed

People who wear No show socks
People who don’t wear no show socks (mostly men)
Fix the issue with them falling off
A fix for all kinds of sock problems
Exists because the current socks fall off all the time
People don’t wear them correctly or just continue to be unsatisfied with them when they can easily switch

Interviews:
My friend, Daniel.
-      He explained to me that a lot of guys don’t wear the no show type of sock because it is often seen as feminine and doesn’t really have a need in guy shoes
My friend, Chloe.
-      She explained to me how in shoes that require no shows are usually business shoes which she typically wear panty hose with.
My roommate, Gaby.
-      She simply doesn’t have an opinion because she doesn’t wear them
My roommate, Isa.
-      He told me he also doesn’t wear no shows because its normally a problem with people seeing others socks but he doesn’t care if his socks are shown or not
My boss, Sparsha.
-      She said that typically these issues arise when you don’t wear the right size sock and she doesn’t have an issue with no shows falling off of her feet. I’m jealous.

From all of this information I believe my target audience switched from everyone to mostly women and a group of people that wear no shows. I see now that a lot of people don’t take interest in them.

30A Congrats everyone!
