1. I found the source from the Washington Post under “tech” and then “innovation”. I was lead to believe this as an opportunity for young individuals that are going to school, I think this shows that there are many opportunities to go to school to become a plastic surgeon. This would show the opportunity is huge to make a large amount of money in the future. This is a good early economic opportunity. I think the customers will most likely support the person that provides the best work with the lowest cost. It’s a relatively harder opportunity to take as it does require year to become a surgeon.
I think I saw this opportunity because I am constantly wondering how the job market will change as we get older and what will be most beneficial to study in the future.
2. I found the source from the Washington Post under “tech” and then “innovation”. This to me is another economic opportunity due to the ability to invest in these upcoming companies. If there are cars that begin to drive themselves then there will need to be a lot of startup costs from consumers, but you will make your money back by investing into them. I think most consumers will be young individuals, about 20 years old-40 years old. Only because a lot of older people don’t believe I this kind of thing. This opportunity is fairly easy to exploit since you can learn stocks and such on your own and do most of it online.
I have seen a lot of the new technology coming to Gainesville- including the self-driving buses and tried to think critically on whether it’s a good or bad thing. I see the downsides to it but also the economic possibility of it.

3. I found this source from the Alligator. This opportunity describes a food truck rally for all of Gainesville. I think this is a good opportunity for not only consumers to come try but a lot of smaller food truck businesses to get their name out there and be heard and gain a reputation. The consumers would most likely just include Gainesville citizens. I see this as an opportunity for not only consumers and food truck owners but also families to have something to explore in Gainesville to create a closer feeling of family. I think this is a fairly easy opportunity to sieze.
I saw this because I personally have been to many of the food truck rally’s with my friend’s and family and enjoy all of the time we spent there.
4. I found this last one through the Alligator as well. This talks about research done at UF to see if hemp can be grown to be commercial is possible. I think this is a great opportunity to produce products to invent products that could have a withstanding effect on how plants are grown. Especially if you know how hemp is grown. I think a lot of the consumers to buy these products would be people who want to mass produce plant products, either legally or illegally. I think this opportunity is a little more difficult if you have the resources but if not, you could always help to develop more ideas and incorporate some of your won.
I saw this because I think about how difficult it can be to successfully grow marijuana and this would help to mass produce it which I am not against in today’s society.

I found your post to be very interesting. in particular I found the tech articles to be very interesting and your analysis was insightful. The article about self-driving cars was fascinating and I agree that self-driving vehicles presents an economic opportunity. I also thought the article about food trucks was interesting and I agree that it also presents an opportunity.
ReplyDeleteHi Brynn! I found your post very interesting as you gave great background to each of the sources and I was able to fully understand each opportunity. Your first article was impressive because it made me think out of the box as to why it was considered an opportunity. I don’t see anything that you would need to do to improve for the future. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI found your analysis of opportunity 2 to be interesting. I'm not sure whether I see the same opportunities as you. By way of start-up costs, I don't believe the consumer will be the ones paying for it, unless the product a company creates is so incredible that it justifies the costs. Sure, there may always be "early adopters," but I wouldn't expect your average consumer, or even the intended target audience for self-driving vehicles, to fork out the cash for a product that has yet to be proven. In regards to the age of investors, I think many 20 year olds may want to invest in the self-driving industry, however, how many of them have thousands to put into it? For the upper bound, I think you're close at an age of 40, they've got money, experience, influence, and a semi-familiarity with the concept of self-driving vehicles
